We can now confirm that the Villas application to the Township (deferred by the Township for a legal opinion at the November 16, 2017 meeting) will be reintroduced at the Committee of the Whole meeting December 14th in Port Carling (map).
There are numerous variables in this meeting since we may not be fully informed of the results of their solicitor report.
Best case: The Township outright rejects the Villas application.
Worst case: Planning and the COW recommend that Township accept the Villas application “as is” where a majority of councillors could vote at Council the next day to accept.
We must be prepared to meet every contingency. The Friends of Muskoka will submit a legal argument stating that all decisions should be frozen until the results of the OMB hearing on the Touchstone application are known. The issues are the same and once the OMB has an established legal position from Touchstone, there will be much less emotional and political risk for the Muskoka Township as they review and vote for each subsequent application.
The Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting is on Thursday, Dec 14th at 9:00AM. If you wish to speak at the meeting, you must notify Ms. Cheryl Mortimer by Friday, Dec 8th. Presentations are limited to 5 minutes, but there are no limits on number of delegates.
Please attend the meeting – these last couple meetings have shown what can happen when we show up with the community behind us.
Save Muskoka!
