Incredibly good news from Friday’s (05/18/18) Township of Muskoka Lakes council meeting.
The Township of Muskoka Lakes voted 8-2 to pass resolutions to require additional studies of the Resort Village of Minett and to institute an interim control by-law (ICBL) which freezes development applications while the studies are undertaken. Applications will then be judged against the polices and by-laws that are in place when the ICBL is lifted. ICBLs last for one year, during which they can not be appealed, and are renewable for a second year.
The Friends of Muskoka, in partnership with the MLA, have effectively paused the development in Minett (including Legacy Cottages, Clevelands House, the Red Leaves Marriott and everything in between) while studies are undertaken to determine what is appropriate development, in this small bay.
We’ve got some more work to do shaping the Official Plans as well as ensuring that our concerns are properly addressed by candidates in the October 22, 2018 election, but it is nice to stop and reflect on a job well done.
Way to go Friends of Muskoka!
