Here is the Legacy Cottages waterfront on Lake Rosseau as it was in the summer of 2017 (notice the water depth in the foreground). Unfortunately, you can’t see the weasel running back and forth across the shore, the many families of ducks nesting in this bay, or the bass nursing around the protected cribs – but they are all there and they won’t survive Legacy’s dense residential construction.
The environment and the character of Muskoka will change forever if this project is allowed to continue unchanged. And we’re still fighting similar battles with The Villas and Mist and with potentially 87 other resort commercial properties across the Muskoka Lakes should the precedent be set. We must stop residential use of commercial properties and we must insist that sustainable development is at the forefront of any planned revisions to the Muskoka Official Plans.
